   The big thing today seems to be the modern gold coins that are actually bullion coins. They are all dated and have fixed values, far below the amount, the gold in the coin is actually worth. They do the same with Platinum. The U.S. mint puts out a version of both types in proof that are supposed to be a collector item. It kind of pushing that term. A true collector actually collects the gold coins made before 1933. Don’t forget gold coins of the world minted before say 1933, are usually a good buy. Russia is the only country that struck platinum coins for use. More people collect silver and copper coins than all the collectors of gold and platinum put together.
